Sometimes it happens. Fit matters, so we do our best to select someone who fits your child’s learning style, personality, and confidence level, but occasionally it just doesn’t work as well as we hope. If that happens, tell us and we’ll adjust accordingly.

That may mean refining the approach, or in some cases introducing a different tutor whose style is a better fit. Our goal is long-term progress, not forcing a pairing that doesn’t work.

We do support current homework, because it shows us exactly where your child is getting stuck. But, that’s not the end goal.

Our focus is building a repeatable way of approaching math: how to break down unfamiliar problems, check work logically, and think under pressure.

We also prepare specifically for tests, so students don’t feel confident in session but freeze during exams. Our goal is to build a system of thinking that they can use across any logic-based class they’ll take.

It depends on the goal and the starting point. Some students just need short-term support before a test and feel clearer within a few sessions. Others have foundational gaps that take longer to rebuild.

We spend the first session figuring out what the student’s goals, strengths and weaknesses are and adjust our techniques from there. Most families notice a rapid increase in knowledge, followed by long-term changes in how the student approaches math as a whole.

Absolutely. Our long-term goal is building a structured way of thinking about math. But we know that in the short term, getting through the next test matters.

From the beginning, we work on core exam skills like time management, organized problem setup, and mistake identification. Math can be quite test-heavy, so we make sure our students are well-prepared for them.

Many private tutors focus on helping students get through homework and prepare for upcoming tests.

We focus on three layers: fixing the root misunderstandings, building self-trust in how students approach math, and installing a structured problem-solving system that carries into exams.

That combination of diagnosis, mindset, and execution is what makes our results stay, even across classes.

We offer both online and in-person. For in-person sessions, we often host them at UVic, but there is a lot of flexibility. If you’re hoping for in-house tutoring, just let us know and we will likely be able to accommodate.

While we do most of our in-person tutoring at UVic, we can often find a way to accommodate in-house tutoring. Just ask us and we can probably help out.

It really depends on the goals and how many foundation gaps there currently are. For a student that’s just looking to patch a couple knowledge gaps, once a week often works well. For students that have larger gaps or struggle a lot with motivation or confidence, 2 sessions or more a week can be more helpful.

In most cases, our rates are $45 an hour. For in-house tutoring, we may charge a fee for travel time so that the tutor feels well-compensated for the extra time.
